We are thrilled to announce the release of Notes & Docs for Trello v2.0, our biggest product update ever! With this new version, you can now take your note-taking and document-editing experience to the next level and organize your notes and documents like never before.

Our latest product version is packed with a host of new and improved features. You can now better organize your thoughts by creating sub-notes, easily find relevant information by searching notes, access version history, lock notes, and quickly overview your note structure with the brand new document outline feature.

We have also made significant improvements to our editor, introducing new extensions such as callouts, sticky notes, columns, tables of content, and task hierarchies.

We have expanded our supported embed types to include popular tools such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Gist, Stackblitz, Spotify, and more.

In addition to all these new features, we have revamped Notes & Docs for Trello to enhance your experience. We've fixed various visual inconsistencies and glitches, improved drag and drop, made images, embeds, tables, and code blocks precisely resizable.

Let’s deep dive into the details.

Sub-notes

By using sub-notes, you can organize and structure your thoughts in a meaningful way. Sub-notes can be used to create a hierarchy of thoughts, where sub-notes provide more in-depth information while top notes offer a general overview.

Search notes and recently updated notes

As more and more information becomes available on your notes, it is crucial to find relevant information fast.

With our full-text search capability, you can quickly locate the notes and documents you're looking for, saving you time and hassle. Plus, this feature can give you a clear overview of recently updated documents to keep you up-to-date and informed.

Document version history

With note version history you can ensure that no content is lost accidentally. The version history feature enables you to access and restore previous versions of your notes and documents any time.

Lock notes

This feature comes in handy when you want to restrict editing access to other team members.

Document outline

Overview the structure and easily navigate through your document with the help of the new document outline feature. Apply heading styles to the different sections and sub-sections of a note, and Notes & Docs uses these styles to automatically generate the document outline, updating it as the document is edited and revised.

Improved text formatting experience

Enjoy more colors for the text highlighter, text colors, task hierarchies, text indentation and alignment.

New editor elements

We made our note editor more capable by adding callout, sticky notes, columns, table of contents, date and Trello member extensions.

Table of contents

The purpose of a table of contents is to help you navigate through the document and find specific sections quickly. In addition, it provides a useful overview of the document's structure and organization. The table of contents element works in the same way as the "Document Outline" feature mentioned above. However, it can be embedded directly into the note itself, making it easily accessible even when the note is exported or shared.

Callout

Callout element is about highlighting important information in your note. You can choose from a predefined set of styles and colors as hint, info, success, warning, error and note. Use callouts to make your content more engaging and visually appealing, ensuring that important information never goes unnoticed.

Sticky note

Sticky notes offer another way to visually highlight and separate ideas or tasks from the rest of the content. They are great to represent various planning items in your document, which can be converted to Trello cards when it's time to start working on the corresponding task.

Columns

The columns layout element allows you to create visually appealing and organized layouts for your content. With the ability to split the page into multiple columns, you can easily divide information into distinct sections, making it easier for readers to navigate and understand.

Date

Typing dates manually can be a tedious task that often leads to inconsistent date formats across your documents. But now, with our new Date feature, you can easily add dates to your content by simply typing /date. The Date element can also be used as a placeholder for current date in note templates. This means that when you create a new note by copying an existing one, the Date placeholder will automatically be replaced with the current date.

Trello member

Our Trello member editor element makes it easy to reference board members in your notes. With the ability to embed Trello members directly into your content, you can quickly and easily identify who is responsible for a particular task or project.

Improved table element

The table element now comes with new themes, colors and many customization options. Besides representing tabular data, it is flexible and customizable enough to use it as layout element to organizing note content or representing different kind of canvas-like visualizations.

Keyboard-only editing experience

Now, you can perform almost all content editing actions without using your mouse or learning complicated keyboard shortcuts. We have added all the existing and new text formatting options to the / command menu. Simply hit the / key, start typing the name of the desired command, select it, and done, you're ready to use it while typing.

In addition to the command menu, we have also added a new way to reorganize your notes with ease. Just move your cursor to the desired part or element in the editor and press
Options/Alt + Up/Down to move it up or down.

New rich media embeds

Notes & Docs allows you to embed rich media embeds like Youtube, Miro, Figma, Loom, etc. in your notes. We extended this capability by adding the following new embed types:

  • CloudApp
  • CleanShot
  • Google Docs
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Slides
  • Google Maps
  • Google Calendar
  • Gist
  • Stackblitz
  • Tweet
  • Giphy
  • TED
  • Quizlet
  • Spotify
  • iFrame code embed

Additional note icons and icon colors

Note icons serve multiple purposes, including visually differentiating between different types of notes, categorizing them based on content, and indicating note status. For example, you can use different icons for meetings, tasks, or drafts, and show if a task is complete or overdue.

To make note icons even more useful, we have doubled the number of available icons and introduced icon colors. With more icons and colors to choose from, you can easily create a more detailed and customizable system for organizing your notes.
